Description
A brilliantly-coloured, fast-growing perennial that originates from the volcanic slopes of Central America. 'Plum Crazy' produces delicate, clover-like leaves of deep plum-burgundy. Each is composed of three heart-shaped leaflets that open and close in response to light — a phenomenon known as nyctinasty. Impressively, foliage folds neatly at dusk and unfurls again by morning. Stems are slender and branching, forming a full, wiry and cascading mound of warm, jewel-toned colour. Indoors plants achieve 8–12" in diameter and height. Produces small, cheerful yellow flowers throughout the growing season, and these contrast strikingly against the dark foliage. Recovers readily from periods of drought by re-sprouting from its tuberous roots. Prefers bright, indirect to direct light, average humidity and an evenly moist but well-draining substrate. Best suited to any of our small tabletop planters from Bergs Potter.
