Description
Stapelia Hirsuta (aka African Star Plant or Carion plant) features fleshy, upright stems edged with soft spines and covered in fine hairs. In ideal conditions, the plant produces impressive and fascinating, reddish-purple star-shaped flowers with intricate petal patterns and a velveteen surface. Blooms span 3-4" and persist 3-7 days on the plant, producing an odour akin to rotting meat, which attracts pollinating flies in its natural habitat. Flowering occurs 1-2 times per year in late summer to early fall. Suitable for a windowsill, tabletop or shelf in any small Bergs Potter planters. Prefers bright direct sunlight.
