Description
A hardy, highly ornamental cactus from the cloud forests of Mexico, celebrated for its extensive, deeply notched foliage and layered, trailing habit. Flattened stems grow in cascading chains, each marked with distinctive serrated edges resembling the teeth of a saw or shark fin; hence the common names, “Shark Fin Cactus” and “Fishbone Cactus." Stems are vibrant, glossy green and surprisingly soft to the touch and may reach 2-3' long at maturity. Under ideal conditions, plants may reward growers with extraordinary nocturnal flowers — these are large, star-shaped, and sweetly fragrant, opening in shades of creamy white to pale yellow. Prefers bright indirect light with some direct sun, and benefits from a chunky, well-draining mix such as Molly's Succulent Mix. Best-suited to hanging baskets, pedestal planters, or placement on well-lit high shelves where foliage may cascade freely.
