Description
A charming plant originating in the rocky woodlands of China and Japan. Despite its common name, Saxifraga stolonifera is unrelated to the strawberry and the begonia. Long, slender runners extend freely from the base of the plant, each tipped with a small plantlet, mimicking the habit of a strawberry plant. Leaves are rounded and softly hairy, dark green above with silver-traced veining and a warm reddish-purple reverse. Individual leaves reach 1-3" across; and the plant spreads to approximately 8–12" at maturity indoors via its trailing runners. Available currently in flower. Blooms are delicate, asymmetrical white flowers on tall, branching stems above mounded foliage. Flowering is seasonal and not guaranteed year-round. Undemanding and tolerant of some neglect. Prefers bright to moderate, indirect light, average humidity and an evenly moist but well-draining substrate. Best suited to an elevated shelf or mantle where runners trail freely. Potted in our new rose terracotta Pantheon Planter 12 cm / 4.25" from Bergs Potter.
