Description

A small and exquisite globular cactus native to the high-altitude valleys of Bolivia. Forms a compact, clustering mound. Neat, comb-like rows of short, white radial spines lie flat against each body, creating an intricate, almost lace-like surface pattern. Individual heads reach 2–4cm in diameter; and the plant clusters freely over time, forming a dense mound of 10–15cm / 4–6" or more at maturity indoors. Under ideal conditions, produces disproportionately large, vivid orange-red flowers that emerge from the base of each head in spring — spectacular in scale relative to the plant itself and among the most rewarding of any small cactus in cultivation. Flowers may last for up to ten days. However, flowering is seasonal and not guaranteed year-round. Prefers bright, direct to indirect light, low humidity and a well-draining, gritty substrate allowed to dry fully between waterings. Potted in a rose terracotta Julie Planter 12 cm / 4.25" from Bergs Potter.
