Description
An eccentric trailing cactus of exceptional textural character, commonly called Monkey Tail Cactus (Hildewintera Colademononis). Native to the steep, rocky cliffs of the Bolivian Andes, where it grows epilithically — anchored to sheer rock faces above the jungle canopy. Stems emerge upright before developing a pronounced trailing habit, each densely covered in soft, white hair-like spines. The plant typically produces 3–5 branching stems, reaching up to 8' in the wild and around 4' indoors. It blooms freely indoors given suitable conditions. Flowers are vivid red, tubular and produced in proliferation along stems throughout the growing season. Thrives in bright indirect to filtered light with some direct sun. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense afternoon sun, which may scorch stems. Best displayed on an elevated shelf or sunny windowsill where its trailing form reads to full effect. Potted in a Bergs Potter rose terracotta planter.
