Description

A sculptural caudiciform succulent native to semi-arid regions of Madagascar. Beloved for its swollen, silvery caudex, knobbly architectural form, and clusters of short, upright, spine-armed stems. During active growth, stem tips produce compact rosettes of large, oval leaves, which are dual coloured (olive green above with red undersides). Broad and low in habit, Pachypodium densiflorum remains compact in cultivation, reaching up to 28" in height while developing an impressively wide caudex. Its tuberous silhouette is oft compared to a lumpy potato or Jerusalem artichoke—odd, graphic, and full of character. The name, densiflorum, refers to its abundant flowering. Under ideal conditions indoors, mature plants may produce dense clusters of vivid yellow blooms on tall stalks annually. The species typically goes dormant in winter — growth slows or stops and foliage may drop; during this phase, reduce watering significantly. Thrives in bright or direct light with minimal care once established.

Contains a toxic, milky sap! Place beyond reach of small children and pets, stabilized in any small to medium-sized planter by Bergs Potter.
