Description
A dramatic epiphytic cactus bred from species native to the forests of Mexico and Central America. Produces broad, flattened, leaf-like stems with softly scalloped edges that arch and cascade freely; these form a full, layered and generous mound. Stems are a deep, vigorous green. New growth emerges from the margins of mature stems, branching laterally to create an increasingly lush and sculptural habit. Individual stems may reach 1–2' while the plant itself spreads impressively with age. Given sufficient light, and a period of winter cool and reduced water, mature specimens produce extraordinarily large, vivid yellow or pink flowers — among the most spectacular of any houseplant. Each flower lasts several days. Position on an elevated shelf, mantle or in a hanging planter so that stems cascade freely. Prefers bright, indirect light, moderate humidity and an evenly moist but well-draining substrate. Best suited to a x-medium terracotta planter from Bergs Potter.
