DESCRIPTION

Part of a growing body of work that explores the aesthetics and utility of handled vessels, while referring to an extensive lineage of precedents from ancient Greece to the Art Nouveau movement to Modernist Sculpture and beyond.

A medium-sized vase whose broad, oval mouth transitions into a cylindrical body with symmetrical sloping arms that look like scrolls. Strongly figurative. Murky mustard-yellow glazing with earthy-brown rim and shoulders as well as drippy passages of blue-grey on the shoulders, arms, sides and interior. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Wheel-thrown stoneware with hand-built features. Matte to satin finish. Not watertigh, suitable for dried floral displays.

DIMENSIONS

7.5" Ø x 8.5" h (3" x 6" opening)

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen.
