DESCRIPTION

Part of an ongoing series — "Ridges" and "Twists" — concerned with vessels in a state of flux.

An amoeba-shaped vase with irregular, rounded and tapering walls that resemble folds of fabric. Fluid, sinuous and sculptural form. Painterly glaze application — all daubs, smears, wipes, sprays and drips in watery greys and blues with peachy pink crystalline patches. Mesmerizing molten yet watery surface. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Hand-built stoneware. Glossy throughout with crystalline flashes along folds and pinch marks. Watertight.

DIMENSIONS

5.5" Ø x 6" h (variable opening)

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her finest artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
