DESCRIPTION

Part of an ongoing series of round vases drawn from ancient Korean Moon Jars.

A medium-sized, round vase with a slightly flared neck and pronounced foot. A marvel of restrained glazing. Speckled amber base transitions into sponged masses of light beige on the upper body, neck and mouth. The ash-infused titanium glazing burns peachy-pink in the kiln; Hints of copper-derived mint in parts, as well as peachy-pink from the ash-infused titanium glaze. (Ash was collected by family from their property.) Delicate grey glaze radiates from the neck joint and begs attention. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Wheel thrown stoneware. Crystalline and matte finish. Watertight.

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
