DESCRIPTION

Part of an ongoing series — "Ridges" and "Twists" — concerned with vessels in a state of flux.

An amoeba-shaped vase with irregular, rounded and tapering walls that resemble folds of fabric. Fluid, sinuous and sculptural form. Painterly glaze application — all daubs, smears, wipes, sprays and drips in muted, earthy colours. Speckled throughout. Peachy orange extremities and interior provide additional interest. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Hand-built stoneware. Eggshell finish throughout. Watertight.

DIMENSIONS

9" Ø x 7.5" h (5.5" x 8.5" variable opening)

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
