A flat-bottomed vase with irregular, concave, ridged and twisting walls that extrude from an octagonal base. Wavy, uneven mouth. Energetic spiralling form conjures natural phenomena and architectural elements. Milky pink and blue glaze on a dark clay body yield wonderfully luminous results. Foaming and bubbling glazing on joints provides additional interest. Just exquisite! One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Wheel-thrown stoneware with hand-built features. Matte finish throughout. Watertight.

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.
