DESCRIPTION
Part of an ongoing series — "Ridges" and "Twists" — concerned with vessels in a state of flux.
A large, flat-bottomed vessel with concave, ridged walls that extrude from a sixteen-sided medallion base. Distinctive wavy opening. Conceived both as a vase or as a cachepot for your favourite plant (i.e., without a drainage hole). Accommodates an 8-9" nursery grow pot. Active clay surface includes bubbles, atmospheric sprays and drifts that bring levity to this substantial form. Exquisite pink glazing with white moments and toasted tips and joints. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Flat-bottomed and weighted to also support the display of dense, branching materials fresh or dried. Wheel-thrown with hand-built parts. Stoneware. Matte finish. Watertight.
Minor imperfections at base, only visible on underside.
DIMENSIONS
13" Ø x 10.5" h (11" variable opening)
DESIGNER
Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.
Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
