Description

Unusual, sculptural and endlessly intriguing, we adore Oscar Milkweed (aka Balloon Plant or Asclepias Physocarpa) for its playful character and luminous green colour. Tall wiry stems are studded with clusters of round, inflated seed pods, which vary in size from that of a walnut to a small-apple (1-4" Ø). Pods are round, buoyant and delicately veined, their near-translucent skins are covered with fine, soft bristles. Colouring ranges from lime to pale chartreuse, and they occasionally bear swathes of burgundy or purple on their surfaces. Slender, dark-green, lance-shaped leaves provide contrast along stems. These blooms maintain their shape in a vase for weeks, often drying in place. Display en masse or mix with other textural materials and focal flowers.
