DESCRIPTION

Part of an ongoing series of round vases drawn from ancient Korean Moon Jars, featuring altered openings or necks of a differing geometry, such as squares or ovals.

A round vase that tapers down to a flat, circular base and up to an unexpected and protruding square mouth. Earthy palette. Amber base layers are largely obscured by a beige mid-layer and irregular washes of navy-grey at the mouth and along the curvature. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Wheel thrown stoneware, modified by hand. Crystalline and matte finish. Watertight.

DIMENSIONS

6.5" Ø x 8" h (2.5" square opening)

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
