DESCRIPTION

Part of an ongoing series reimagining ancient "Venus" figures.

A large vase with an anthropomorphic or chalice shape. Features a wide oval mouth, flattened yet exaggeratedly round shoulders, and an elongated body that tapers to acircular, flat-bottomed base. Surface is mottled buttery-yellow, taupe, amber and grey with brown leaching specks in parts. Ash-infused glazing burns peachy-pink in the kiln and yields beautiful moments throughout. (The ash was collected by the artist's family, from their property.) Glazing gently transitions from light to dark, creating a soft, natural gradient. Navy makes a surprise appearance in drippy layers on the interior. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Wheel thrown stoneware with hand-built features. Matte glaze. Watertight.

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her largest and most ambitious artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
