DESCRIPTION

Part of an ongoing series — "Ridges" and "Twists" — concerned with vessels in a state of flux.

A flat-bottomed vase whose pinched, convex, contracting and twisting walls extrude from a five-petaled base. Fabric-like or tufted walls. Irregular, flower-shaped mouth. Sprayed glazing yields atmospheric masses of lavender-grey, buttery yellow and peach. Red particulate settles into joints and crawls along surface like a fine layer of pencil crayon. Swirled interior base. Interior pinched walls reveal artist's hand. Appears to float, atop pegged feet. A showstopper. One of a kind and handmade by Clam Lab. Hand-built stoneware. Satin finish throughout with some sparkle. Watertight.

DIMENSIONS

5.25" Ø x 7.25" h (variable opening)

DESIGNER

Clam Lab is the ceramics practice of artist Clair Catillaz, based in Catskill, New York, USA. Catillaz creates tactile, functional vessels of other-worldly beauty. They reflect a profound understanding of materials and ceramic history — drawing from the aesthetic of Wabi Sabi and Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian design and the American studio pottery movement, among others. Each piece features high-quality stoneware, masterful glaze customization and application, a sophisticated firing process, and a skillful integration of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her latest collection contains some of her finest artworks to date. All are intended for everyday enjoyment and use.

Made by hand. Due to differences in/among monitors, actual colours may vary from those appearing on screen. Lift before moving to avoid surface marks.
