General Care
Light
Bright filtered. Avoid direct sun, except during winter. Tolerates low to medium light these conditions produce leggy growth.
Temperature
15-24°C. Keep above 10°C. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Humidity
Prefers higher humidity levels, but can tolerate average indoor humidity. Consider occasional misting or using a humidifier in drier environments.
Water
Water thoroughly every 1-2 weeks. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged (spring-fall). Reduce watering in winter, allowing the top 2-3" of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Ensure good drainage.
Fertilize
Feed every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring-summer) with a balanced, organic houseplant fertilizer, following package instructions. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
Maintenance
Rotate the plant every 1-2 weeks to promote even growth. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their glossy appearance. Prune as needed to maintain shape and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves. Support large, heavy leaves with stakes if necessary.
Potting and Repotting
Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of 1 part soil-based mix to 1 part peat or coco coir. Repot every 2-3 years in spring, moving to a pot that is 1-2" larger in diameter and depth. For larger plants, consider top-dressing with fresh potting mix annually instead of repotting.
Special Points/Common Problems
- Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering, while crispy brown leaf edges could be a sign of underwatering or low humidity. Wilting or drooping leaves may suggest insufficient watering or root issues.
- Regularly check for pests such as spider mites, which can be a common problem in dry conditions.
